US Travel: Everything is the same, says Lebanon official

On the first day of what was supposed to be tighter screening ordered by the United States for airline passengers from certain countries, some airports around the world have conceded they had not cracked down.
The U.S. demanded more careful screening for people who are citizens of, or are flying from, 14 nations deemed security risks. But enforcement of the U.S. rules appeared spotty Monday.
”Everything is the same. There is no extra security,” said an aviation official in Lebanon, one of the countries on the list. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly.
Many in Lebanon were upset when they found their country on the list of countries that require tighter screening, specially since Lebanese president Michel Suleiman met with US president Barack Obama last December at the White House . NYT, Ya Libnan

@Many in Lebanon were upset when they found their country on the list of countries that require tighter screening..ok maybe upset but the Lebanese people shouldn’t be surprised. Lebanon is home to one of the largest and well organized terrorist groups who terrorizes its own citizens to get what they want.

Fadi, in the west’s eyes, same as yours, it’s sad to see people THIS ungrateful to a specific militia, organization, party, or whatever you want to call it, a terrorist group.. With exception of our national army, I’d love to see who you’d come up with to defend Lebanon against ISRAEL THE REAL TERRORISTS

They should integrate with the army and use their skills to protect their citizens, the money thats coming in from the USA , Iran and Syria could be used to support one national army thats obedient and respectful to the law and Lebanese constitution and not a militia which takes matters and war decisions into their own hands and uses their military power to disrespect their citizens and their country. By the way..More than half of the Lebanese people feel the same way, this is not a position thats only taken by the west. Many others are afraid to speak their minds.Citizens should not live under the fear and intimidation of gangsters and thugs…Look at whats happening in IRAN when anyone dares to protest.

Wise words Fadi, I completely agree. I just hope that other people wake up to this fact as well.

Fadi, I also do agree with you, they should integrate into one army, but ONE the army and Hezballah are working together anyway, and TWO when you ask Hezballah this, they’ll say that the army aren’t guerilla fighters like they are and it needs time for them to train thesame way… This isn’t coming from me ok. Plus, hoping I won’t be misunderstood, certain allies of Hezballah (very close religiously) are the ones that are blamed for being ‘thugs’ all the time, I strongly believe, after thinking of it for a very long time, that Hezballah respects the way its men act and deals with others. Some Lebanese many be under fear because they’re so anti, but thats natural… Then again, remember Lebanon WILL NEVER turn into an ‘Iran’.
