Mitri: Hariri to head a committee for administrative appointments

Lebanon’s Information Minister Tarek Mitri briefed the press following the cabinet meeting at the Baabda palce which was chaired by president Michel Suleiman

Administrative appointments

President Suleiman talked about the necessity of approving a mechanism for administrative appointments due to the vacancies in the state administrations.
Suleiman said that there is a need to adopt standards of transparency and qualifications [for the administrative appointments]. He also voiced the importance of the role of monitoring systems.
The president also called for setting a deadline to finalize the administrative appointments.
The cabinet agreed to form a committee, headed by Prime Minister Saad Hariri, to propose by the end of March a mechanism for the administrative appointments

Banking control commission

Suleiman called for revising the current law of appointments of the Banking Control Commission, especially with regards to not restricting its membership to one candidate only. He called for guaranteeing that the committee includes members who do not work in banks.
