My name is Mass3oud.Originally came from central Lebanon.Probably you were my neighbor before i came to the USA.

Nazih,
I am with you about equal rights for women. As of recently the government was arguing HER share in municipalities elections etc. REALLY what are they afraid of? AND don't get me started about Lebanese women married to foreigners and their kids requiring resident permits. What a shame!
However, and although we have no slavery in the U.S. I do feel enslaved by my bank to pay a mortgage that I cannot afford. :P lol
Are you from the North of Lebanon Nazih? And is your name Ma2ssoud or Mass3oud?

TONY A: We are not talking about Russia or Saudi Arabia. It is Lebanon and USA.It does not mater how old is Lebanon or how young is USA.We measure them by success and achievements. When it comes to this,USA is few thousand years ahead and Lebanon 200 hundred years in the making.Lebanese ego is so high never admit fallers. You have seen a lot in Canada and a lot more to be seen.I am living the American dream and practicing two culture every day where people obey the law and are treated equally.Jobs are granted to those who are qualified the most regardless their race ,religion or agenda. What you hear from the media news and tv is not always the truth. You have to look at the picture as a whole.Black never under payed because of their color. They are payed by their qualification which is education and experience.majority don't have enough school. And some are highly educated and hold government positions.Look at president Obama.Women are treated equally like men. They have more right and power than men.Actually men almost has no right compare to women in( USA).I don't think you know what you are talking about.Their salary and rates depends on the job and physical productivity they perform.Don't expect to get payed $30. for a production worth ed $15.And that's not fare.Slavery still exist in Lebanon, walid khouri explained that to you very well.No don't be shocked.you know the facts and you don't wanna learn from young state(USA) which is young strong and successful USA is a raw model for democracy. You went on and on and on We know whats going on in Lebanon.things will be done the right and proper way eventually. The you mentioned Hezbollah and blaming Israel for that .Their is no excuse, now there is no outsider put the gun to our head to anything except Hezbollah. They are the problem now and the bar-don is on them .My friend and ya habibi; There is a big deference or may i say no deference between making making law to allow dogs in to residential building and making state and government law.I own few apartment buildings and i know how it works. The land lord is the one who makes the rules,in some cases tenants submit a petition to the landlord an he on his term decides whether he accept it or not.Lebanon democracy is not better the US A's.you must be kidding your self.but that would be a nice wish. You said women in Lebanon have the same freedom as USA. YOU must be out of your mind. That was a joke definitely. Are you living on another planet? You may have to do more research about that cos you are not even close .I know the constitution.I read it and it is great. I know we all love Lebanon .But we have to realistic and peace to all.

Hello Tony,
Where do you live? May be on that "second Earth"? ;) lol
OK here you go:

http://www.migrant-rights.org/2009/12/25/lebanon-ethiopian-maid-falls-from-the-balcony-dies/
http://www.diretube.com/articles/read-lebanese-who-had-lost-loved-ones-was-yelling-at-the-ethiopian-women-witness_392.html

You can find many too many stories out there. However, I do not live there but when I visit I see first hand the abuse. I have witnessed maids working for 17 to 18 hours non-stop. They have no rights and labour rights do not apply to them.
Now I am not saying that all Lebanese treat them like that but a good and significant portion of them do.

Hi Walid,

Well I guess we have more ahead of us in bringing this issue on their tables for debates. i had no idea of this my friend.

if you have any articles or links, please send them to me bro. i will also google human rights lebanon or something as this is new to me.

i am aware of the whole palestinian camp issue re not issuing them citizenship which i agree with cos then that will mean israel wins in shipping palestinians to other countries that will accept them.

but i'm not aware that as workers or whatever they are not given certain rights.

I wonder when we will reach a phase in lebanon history where parties leadsership are elected and not appointed from within the family. It has been a trend in most of the lebanese parties and streams that son will take over from the father.
I dont know what are the opinion of the outstanding members of a party which after years of dedication to the party, they have to see the son appointed as the big leader?
are we different from our neighbours that we tend to criticize? are none of the parties' existent members worth of assuming the highest position?

Tony A
I agree with you in all points except one:
"slavery was around up till 40 years ago and our courts from 500 years back judged everybody equally. the history of lebanon states that the first Druze court banned slavery 500 years before the US president did."
May be on paper Lebanon policies toward slavery is exactly that, but the action of the Lebanese towards foreign Nationals and Palestinians residing in Lebanon working as maids in Lebanon is the opposite. Read the news and see how they are maltreated and used and stripped of their rights.
