Jumblatt questions the aim of criticism against president Suleiman

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt said in his weekly article in Al-Anbaa newspaper, that he does not understand the aim of the criticism campaign against Lebanese President Michel Suleiman.

“Suleiman was elected as a consensus president”, Jumblatt said, adding that the president tries to represent the desires of all the Lebanese and unite them for a better domestic atmosphere.

Jumblatt’s comments come after Wiam Wahhab called on the president to resign last week.

Former minister Wiam Wahab a staunch ally of Syria attacked President Michel Suleiman last Wednesday and and called on him to resign for allegedly failing to govern the country.

Following talks with Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun in Rabiyeh, Wahab said the president should resign “because after two years of rule we feel like we are in the last days of the presidency.”

Jumblatt voiced hope that the Lebanese people would reconcile so that the country would not become captive to other states’ interests.
