Lebanon’s LBC TV reported that the voter turnout in the city of Jezzine reached 70 %, while the overall voter turnout in the district ( Qadaa) of Jezzine reached 60 %. Some polling stations reportedly are still open because of the long lines of voters that are still inside the stations. Officially the poling stations closed at 7 :00pm

The Voter turnout has reached 50% in Sidon city and 49% in Sidon villages, 39% in Jezzine villages but 59% in Jezzine city , 43% in Tyre and 43% in Hasbayia. The average voter turnout in all southern areas has reached 43 percent by about 6:40 pm , minutes before the poll stations close.

Voice of Lebanon Radio station reported at 6 pm that voter turnout in Sidon has exceeded 50 percent.
Former PM and Sidon PM Fouad Siniora called on Sidon’s voters to “massively” head toward polling stations, and urged them to ignore the the intimidation attempts, saying victory in Sidon is just around the corner. (more…)

Interior Minister Ziad Baroud played down election tension in Sidon and said security forces are ready to tackle any situation.
Earlier in the day, media reported a clash between Popular Nasserite Movement leader Osama Saad’s bodyguard and an Internal Security Forces member at a Saida polling station.
At a press conference Sunday, Baroud said that it was a small confrontation and it had been contained.
The interior minister said elections could be stopped as a last resort, but said he was hopeful that would not happen because the Lebanese army and security forces are capable of maintaining stability. (more…)
National News Agency (NNA) reported that the polling stations opened at 7: 00 am in south Lebanon , amid heavy deployment of the Lebanese Army .

German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle visited Lebanon on Saturday as part of his three-day tour of the Middle East.
In Lebanon he visited the 240 German soldiers stationed on the Lebanese coast.
The soldiers are part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which is charged with preventing weapons smuggling by Hezbollah. The international mission has run in its current capacity since 2006, and German troops are scheduled to leave at the end of June. (more…)
