Berri: Relaunched peace talks could raise border tensions

Lebanese parliament speaker warned on Wednesday that the relaunched Middle East peace talks could raise tensions on the border with Israel and ignite clashes in Palestinian refugee camps.

“These talks will no doubt cover (Palestinian) refugees, water and oil in the region,” speaker Nabih Berri said in a statement. (more…)

Iranian president will visit Lebanon Oct13-14


Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is scheduled to visit Lebanon on Oct. 13 on a two – day official visit for talks with Lebanese president Michel Suleiman and other key Lebanese officials, according to An Nahar newspaper report . (more…)

Geagea: aoun should reform himself before criticizing others

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea attacked Free Patriotic Movement chief Michel Aoun on Wednesday calling his Change and Reform Bloc in parliament the “ruined bloc.”

Baroud: Drivers have turned into killers

Lebanon’s Interior Minister Ziad Baroud announced on Tuesday immediate and long-term measures to deal with traffic accidents in the country .

Sfeir: Leave the army alone

Lebanon’s Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir called on Tuesday for keeping the Lebanese army away from political bickering “since it is one of the most important pillars of unity.”

US Christian, Jewish leaders condemn planned Quran burning

Christians, Jews and others, from around the world are rightfully condemning a non-denominational Florida church’s plan to burn Qurans on the upcoming anniversary of 9/11.

It difficult to see how such an aggressive assault on someone else’s religion conforms to Jesus’ command to “Do unto to others as you would have others do unto you.” (more…)

Salameh: Lebanon Banks must comply with Iran sanctions


Lebanese banks will have to comply with stricter sanctions by the United Nations, the U.S. and the European Union on Iran, Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh said.

“It is up to the Lebanese banks to act in accordance with their interests and be sure, if they have to make an operation, that it’s an operation that can’t be contested internationally,” (more…)

Bassil, Hezbollah defend Aoun

Lebanon Energy and Water Minister Gebran Bassil defended his father-in-law, Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun, and called for a constitutional amendment to boost the President’s powers.
