Ahmadinejad wants Lebanese to unite behind Hezbollah

“The enemies have no choice but to surrender and back down in the face of Lebanese groups’ resistance,” Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told his Lebanese counterpart Michel Suleiman in New York late Friday.

Geagea: Hezbollah is forcing us to choose between the tribunal and peace

Assad and Aoun discuss Lebanon’s security

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Saturday to discuss the ways to defuse tension in Lebanon and to ensure stability in the country, the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported. The efforts are aimed at guaranteeing Lebanon’s stability and security and bolster understanding between the Lebanese, it reported. Future MP: Enough intimidation tactics from Hezbollah

Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc MP Ammar Houri on Saturday noted that “the battle against truth, justice and the protection of the future of political life in Lebanon is ongoing.”

In remarks to Future News TV network, Houri added: “We have been witnessing since late 2005 the episodes of the other camp that aim at terminating truth and justice, and today they have reached the peak of insolence through demanding us to forget (slain premier) Rafik Hariri and the rest of martyrs.” (more…)

Hezbollah: Tribunal allies will be viewed as Israeli invaders

Hezbollah’s MP Nawwaf Moussawi on Friday warned that “the period that will follow the (Special Tribunal for Lebanon) indictment won’t be the same as the one before, and any group in Lebanon that might endorse this indictment will be treated as one of the tools of the U.S.-Israeli invasion, and it will have the same fate as the invader.” (more…)

Germany donates radar technology to prevent Hezbollah arms shipments

Germany donated 1.1 million Euros to Lebanon to upgrade its coastal radar system and improve the country’s coastal surveillance, a statement by the German embassy in Beirut said Friday. (more…)

Hezbollah undecided on cooperation with Hariri Tribunal

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon wants again to question people linked to Hezbollah, but the party has not decided whether to cooperate, the group’s deputy chief Sheikh Naim Qassem has said.

In an interview published on Friday, Qassem said: “Yes, there was a new request after the month of Ramadan to (question) people who could be linked to Hezbollah in one way or another.”

“But we have not taken any decision on the matter for now,” Al-Afkar magazine quoted him as saying. (more…)

Aoun visits Syria with Family

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun traveled to Syria on Friday with his family. An earlier report in the Ad Diyar newspaper said that he is scheduled to meet with Syrian officials.

A former army chief, Aoun, 73, was forced into exile after being defeated in a Syrian offensive in 1990 at the end of Lebanon’s 15-year civil war.

He had declared a “war of liberation” against enemy forces. (more…)

President Suleiman to U.N.: Lebanon’s interests must be part of any solution

President Michel Suleiman warned the international community that Lebanon will “not accept” any agreement that goes against its interests.

Suleiman said that Lebanon reserves the right to liberate the country’s occupied land—including the Kfar Shouba hills, the Shebaa Farms and the northern half of Ghajar village—by all permissible and legitimate means, on Friday in his address to the UN General Assembly. (more…)
