Hariri meets Jumblatt


Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri held talks with Progressive Socialist party leader MP Walid Jumblatt at the Center House, in the presence of ministers Ghazi Aridi, Akram Shehayeb and Wael Abu Faour as well as the premier’s adviser Nader Hariri, according to local reports.

Medvedev Praises Obama for New Start Treaty

Russia’s president, Dmitri A. Medvedev, on Friday called the New Start treaty “a cornerstone of security for the coming decades,” and spoke warmly of President Obama, saying that “under very difficult circumstances, he managed to make the Senate ratify this document.”

Mr. Medvedev said Mr. Obama “is a man who knows how to hear and to listen, a man not trapped by stereotypes, a man who lives up to this standard — he keeps his word.” (more…)

Italian officials believe anarchists may have carried out parcel bomb attacks on two embassies in Rome as acts of revenge.

Germany commits another 1.5 million Euro to STL

German Foreign Ministry announced that it will will be contributing an additional 1.5 million Euro ( $ 2million) to The Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) 2011 budget.

The German announcement comes after France announced about a week ago that it will be contributing an additional 1.5 million Euro ( $ 2million) to STL. (more…)

Gaza-bound Asia 1 convoy arrives in Lebanon

The first Asian humanitarian convoy to break Israel’s siege of the Gaza Strip by taking relief supplies to the coastal sliver has reached Lebanon.

Currently joined by activists of 15 different nationalities, the Asian People’s Solidarity with Palestine convoy, also known as Asia 1, began its journey from India and traveled through Pakistan, Iran, Turkey and Syria before arriving in Lebanon. (more…)

Sfeir urges the Lebanese to sacrifice for Lebanon

In his annual Christmas message on Thursday Lebanon’s top Christian spiritual leader Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir urged all the Lebanese to “sacrifice” for Lebanon.
