Safadi condemns Tripoli protests

Economy Minister Mohammad Safadi condemned attacks against media and developmental institutions, particularly the Safadi Foundation, during Tuesday’s protests, according to a statement issued by his press office on Wednesday.

He denounced depriving the city of its ability to make decisions and said the protests distorted Tripoli’s image. (more…)

Hariri: Whoever killed my Dad doesn’t want me in power

Outgoing Prime Minister Saad Hariri told the New York Times in an interview on Wednesday at his residence in down town Beirut that whoever killed his father doesn’t want him to be in power.

“Whoever killed Rafik Hariri in 2005 doesn’t want Saad Hariri to be in power.” Hariri said. (more…)

U.S. targets Lebanese-based drug, money laundering network

The U.S. Treasury Department said on Wednesday it was targeting a Lebanon-based drug trafficking and money laundering network suspected of doing as much as $200 million a month in business. (more…)

PM-designate Najib Mikati visited outgoing Prime Minister Saad Hariri at his downtown Beirut residence on Wednesday.

March 14 calls for peaceful daily rallies

March 14 General Secretariat issued a statement on Wednesday calling on the Lebanese people to take part in peaceful daily rallies in Beirut’s Martyrs Square.

Mikati: Lebanon needs the support of all friendly states

Prime Minister designate Najib Mikati on Tuesday responded to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s statement earlier in the day by saying that Lebanon will maintain ties will all countries.

Mikati: My nomination by Hezbollah is only to protect the Resistance

Lebanon’s Prime Minister designate Najib Mikati told AFP on Tuesday : “My nomination by Hezbollah does not make me committed to any political stance other than protecting the Resistance.”

This is a possible reference to Hezbollah’s five point plan.

Mikati was nominated by Hezbollah on Sunday following his meeting with Syrian president Bashar al Assad in Damascus Syria. (more…)
