Hand grenades found in Mt Lebanon and Western Beirut

The Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) issued a statement on Tuesday stating that it found hand grenades in Mount Lebanon’s Baabda region and on al-Maqdesi Street in Beirut’s Hamra district

According to the statement, one LAF patrol uncovered a suite case filled with hand grenades and other explosives in Baabda and another patrol found a number of grenades in a garbage bin in the fashionable Hamra district of western Beirut.

LAF said that an investigation was launched into both incidents.

Only Hezbollah and the Syrian backed Palestinian militants are armed in Lebanon. All the other Lebanese militia handed over their arms to the government at the end of the civil war .

In May 2008 Hezbollah invaded and occupied western Beirut and tried but failed to occupy Mt Lebanon
