Mufti Qabbani: Aoun’s remarks are not fit for a politician

Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Qabbani, Mufti of the Lebanese Republic condemned on Tuesday Free patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun’s criticism of President Michel Suleiman and Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati.

“We condemn the verbal attacks against the country’s president, and against the Muslims, especially the Sunnis,” Qabbani was quoted by the National News Agency as saying.

“ Aoun’s remarks are not fit for a politician or for any public figure,” the Mufti added.

He said that Aoun “should know that assaulting any sect in Lebanon would be an assault on all of the country’s sects.”

Aoun has repeatedly slammed Suleiman and Mikati and accused them of delaying the formation of a new cabinet.

The Iranian and Syrian backed Hezbollah brought down PM Saad Hariri’s government on January 12 over STL’s imminent indictment which is widely expected to implicate Hezbollah members in the assassination of the father of caretaker PM

Lebanon has been run by a caretaker government since last January. Nagib Mikati was appointed in January as the PM designate with the backing of the new March 8 majority led by Hezbollah. March 14 leaders have repeatedly said that intimidation from Hezbollah’s weapons helped secure the parliamentary majority for Mikati’s nomination.

Disputes over cabinet formation have prevented Mikati from forming the cabinet. Aoun is reportedly demanding a disproportionate share in the cabinet and is being backed by Hezbollah and Syria in his demands . Aoun is also reportedly insisting on being allocated the 2 most sensitive security portfolios : The ministries of Interior and communications and does not want the president to have any share in the cabinet . Aoun is also insisting that the president should not have a share in the cabinet

the mufti was pretty p*** off on television while making a speech about this incident.

i agree Aoun is a dirty rat…he still lives in the 70-80′s in sectarian way..he does not realise that lebanese society [most of it anyway] have progressed from such mentality.

well this a good positive comment from quabbani but still not enouph to rconcile
you need to convice your party to turn inn their weapons to the lebaneese governement ,
to be fair with the lebaneese people it coul, dnt be you are the only group that could keep there weapons and the 75%of the lebaneese people are not allowed to  have armed (sunnis, druz and christians)the majority have placed there faith in the governement and you guys do,nt trust the lebaneese governement and keep holding on your arms you should not be part of the lebaneese state. no one above the law . for the majority of the lebaneese people to accept you as part of lebanon and as citizen like evryone else you need to obey the state demands and turn inn your weapons to the lebaneese governement or you should have no place within the lebaneese community.

the only way they would feel safe is through a united one army country that can face zionist challenges through every means possible not just rockets.

Mufty Qabbani is right. No one should insult the President of the Republic and the Prime Mister Elect
for not bowing down to his idiotic, selfish and unrealistic demands.

I don’t like Aoun, but why are our religious leaders still playing a role in our politics? They should focus on uniting the Lebanese people and settle their differences, and not fuel the power of sectarian government.

That being said, at least Aoun’s doctrine talks about secularism..but he’s a lunatic..so I’d like to take that Doctrine, edit it a bit, and be president.

Who’ll vote for me? Waynak @Hannibal:disqus

What did 3oun say about the sunnis to enrage the Mufti? I missed it.

Anyone aspiring to be president would be stupid to disrespect any Lebanses sect especially especially one of the big 3.
