Allouch links attack on UNIFIL to sanctions against Syria

Future Movement official Mustafa Allouch said on Sunday that Friday’s attack on UNIFIL troops was a results of the European Union and US’ sanctions against the Syrian regime.

Patriarch Rai: Lebanese state is the only guarantee


Bechara Boutros al-Rai , the newly elected Maronite Patriarch said on Saturday that he does not support “statelets,” adding that “the Lebanese state is the only guarantee.”

Syrian opposition leader went missing in Aley

On Thursday, The Syrian Council for Human Rights reported that Shibli al-Ayssami, a leading Syrian opposition member and one of the original founders of the Syrian Baath Party, who fled Syria when Hafez al-Assad father of the present Syrian president Bashar al Assad took over in 1970—went missing amid “mysterious circumstances.” from the town of Aley , Lebanon on Tuesday afternoon. Lebanon MP: Armed men associated with Hezbollah crossed into Syria

March 14 MP Mouin al-Merhebi told the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Saturday that armed people closely associated with March 8 and Hezbollah crossed the northern borders into Syrian territories.

He did not elaborate any further.

Yesterday Al Jazeera reported that 3000 Syrian protesters in Abu Kamal near the Iraqi border , Syria set on fire a poster of Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. Nasrallah’s speech in Beirut last Wednesday in support of Syrian President Bashar Al Assad reportedly infuriated demonstrators and activists.

There were several reports that Hezbollah and Iran are assisting the Syrian regime in its brutal crackdown but Nasrallah denied on Wednesday the allegations

According to human rights activists, at least 1,100 people have been killed and over 10,000 others arrested since the revolt against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime began mid-March. Thousands of Syrians fled to Lebanon to escape the violence

Labora ousted from Lebanese University conference

A dispute took place Friday at the Lebanese University, Faculty of Science over a clause in the display of Labora calling for a stop to the Christian emigration . (more…)

Al-Akhbar: Jumblatt says Hezbollah’does not want to form a cabinet’

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt said on Friday that the report in Al-Akhbar newspaper where he was quoted as saying that Hezbollah “does not want to form a new cabinet,” and that Hezbollah is using Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun as a façade to delay cabinet formation, is accurate.
