Deal reached between Bkirki and Hezbollah over Lassa land dispute

A meeting was held at Bkirki on Wednesday, was chaired by Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rai and was attended by Hezbollah officials Ghaleb Abu Zainab and Hassan al-Moqdad and members of a follow up committee MTV reported.

The purpose of the meeting was to “put an end to construction on disputed land and ask the Internal Security Forces to follow up on the implementation of the resolution MTV reported

An agreement was reached during the meeting under which the committee tasked with surveying lands would resume its work in two months and the two sides would halt provocative media statements, MTV reported

The survey of lands in the Jbeil District town of Lassa will also resume in two months, according to MTV.

The Bkirki meeting comes after Hezbollah gunmen last week prevented a Maronite League team from surveying land owned by the Maronite Patriarchate in the predominantly Shiite town of Lassa in the Jbeil District.

On Tuesday, a team from MTV was planning to shoot a news report in Lassa when Hezbollah gunmen broke their cameras and prevented it from carrying out its task.

Change and Reform bloc MP Simon Abi Ramia, who is a member of the follow-up committee, told New TV after the Bkirki meeting that “the issue of Lassa was blown out of proportion by the media.”

“The dispute erupted in the 1940s and the property is neither Maronite nor Shiite and there is a committee that will follow up on the issue transparently and clearly and we have set a time frame for finalizing the issue of the land survey,” Abi Ramia added, stressing that “things are back to normal.”

Many Christians blame Abi Ramia’s boss , Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun who is closely allied with Hezbollah for what is happening in Lassa area.

The follow-up committee consists of representatives from all Maronite movements and parties. It comprises MPs Elie Kairouz, Simon Abi Ramia, Fouad al-Saad, Hadi Hbeish, Elie Aoun, Elie Marouni and Emile Rahme.

The committee is tasked with coordinating and preparing for upcoming Maronite meetings in Bkirki. The committee formed subcommittees tasked with tackling the issues of lands owned by Christians, administrative appointments and other topics.

Lassa has reportedly been transformed into a Hezbollah military base, informed sources told al-Joumhourya newspaper on Wednesday.

The sources said that the Shiite party has dug tunnels and set up shelters in the town and installed cameras that would take photos of vehicles and drivers.

Commenting on the attack against MTV , the attack against the Maronite delegation and Hezbollah’s military base in Lassa Phalange party MP Sami Gemayel said on Wednesday that Lebanon needs to be “protected from its Resistance.”

“Some Lebanese parties have been acting like a militia under the pretext of a resistance… but the Lebanese citizen is in need for protection from its Resistance,” Gemayel said in reference to Hezbollah

    Errr … let’s see … revised news item .. “Last week in 1940, …. ”

Lebanon is abnormal, a country where thugs rule both the street and government.

An absolute shame that a country as beautiful as Lebanon is not given the opportunity to once again be known as the “Paris of the Middle East”…..

However, where there is life there is hope, hence the need to continue to pray and strive for peace, harmony and unity.

      Peace and God bless.

Guns can only be silenced by guns not dialogue. Some are kidding themselves if they think HA arms can be resolved through national dialogue. These arms are now being used to expropriate private and public land and to gain political advantage. They have become ever more threatening towards the Lebanese people. HA can no longer claim these are solely resistant arms. HA wants to foster a tribal culture except the opposing tribes have been in an extended coma. Isn’t it time they’ve awaken.

You managed to chase out the Syrian army by standing on the streets and shouting …

Although, I admit the Syrian citizens are having trouble doing the same thing … hmmm …

I dont understand how HA wants to gontrol the government then they break the law. Im not talking about weapons only, but building on land you dont own. These people live in Dahyi, Quzai on government owned property. The area of gbayri and hadath have all turned into the dahyi and non government land was simply stolem from christian and sunni owners and the just build homes on it. Now in Jbeil…. Why dont they just buy land and build a house or rent a house. you know people pay for land normally and they pay for power and pay taxes and things like that. you cant just take another persons land and build a house on it. If the police come to stop them we all know what happens, if cameras come to report on it we saw what happens….. This situation is crazy to say the least. How can the government and its supporters act openly as criminals and agents to Iran and Syria. I dont want to sound racist but the Shia muslims in Lebanon (about 80% of them) dont pay for power, dont pay taxes, business dont pay import taxes, build and live in homes owned by other people then they go around saying that they are defending the country from corruption and israel.

A friend of mine is Shia. He moved back to Lebanon after his father died. He inherited a building his father purchased legally in Hadath but he cant do anything with it as HA supporters from the Zaiter family live in it and want $200,000 for each apartment the leave. Now he has 10 apartments so they want 2 million dollars and the building is worth about 2 million dollars. He went to HA and asked for help and they simply told him to pay them and he would have his building back.

After pursuing it for a while he realized they had already been paid from the government as displaced people from the war and they have no legal right to ask for money as they nover even paid rent or asked to live in the building. The police were beaten when they went to empty the building.

I told him he should take a vacation to the U.S and make sure the building catches fire or blows up while he is on vacation.
Can you imagine they took over his building and they want him to buy it back from them after they stole it.

These are the kind of things that should make headlines in the newspapers EVERY DAY – until someone finally corrects the wrongs committed on innocent, and seemingly helpless, citizens.
We all have stories of how there is no justice  …..

This is the funny part: I acted as if I was going to buy it from him. I asked a local official my friend knows to negotiate with them and see if they would take $500,000 to leave. We had decided that if they accepted I would pay them $500,000 and give him $500,000 and I would own half the building. I got an answer in about 3 hours. “The building is worth far more than that. Why would we leave for less” Swear to God!

Wolves in Ninja clothing, can not be trusted to honor pacts when they are dealing with sheep.
They will eat few of them every time they get the chance till there won’t be any sheep left unless….the shepards get some good sheep dogs
with more fangs than the wolves.
