American officials say that the residence of the U.S. ambassador to Syria was attacked by a mob shortly after pro-government protesters stormed the U.S. embassy compound in Damascus.

Assad loyalists attack U.S. and French Embassies in Syria

Syrian government supporters stormed into the American Embassy compound in Damascus on Monday and vandalized the building, according to news reports and images posted online.

Cypriot Defense Minister, Army Chief resign over explosion

The defense minister of Cyprus and his army chief have both resigned in the wake of a powerful explosion at a military base near the southern Cypriot city of Limassol which left at least 12 people dead.

At least 11 killed in Iranian munitions blast in Cyprus

At least 11 people were killed and more than 50 injured on Monday when confiscated munitions exploded at a naval base in Cyprus, local radio stations said.

The blast knocked out the island’s biggest power plant at Vassiliko next to the base, causing black-outs in the capital Nicosia and at dozens of tourist resorts. (more…)

U.S. complains to Syria after 31-hour protest outside embassy

Protesters backed by the Syrian government rallied outside the U.S. Embassy in Damascus for 31 hours this weekend, throwing projectiles at the compound and at one point pelting two Embassy employees with food, the State Department said Sunday. Hezbollah refused to meet with Roux over defending its members
