Lebanon FM heads to Syria, report

Minister of Foreign Affairs Adnan Mansour told the Voice of Lebanon radio station ( VOL) on Sunday that Lebanon’s decision to abstain from voting on the UN Security Council presidential statement (pertaining to the brutal crackdown against the pro democracy protesters in Syria) was an appropriate step, adding that Lebanon cannot take a decision that opposes Syria.

Mansour who headed to Syria today said: “Lebanon’s abstention from voting did not harm any of the countries.”

Mansour added that Lebanon’s decision does not necessarily mean there will be a confrontation with the international community.

He also denied talks that Lebanese Ambassador to the UN Nawwaf Salam will resign from his post.

March 14 MP Ahmad Fatfat said in an interview with Al-Jumhuriya newspaper published on Friday that he urged Lebanon’s ambassador to the UN, Nawwaf Salam, to resign because Lebanon abstained from voting on the UN Security Council presidential statement pertaining to the brutal crackdown in Syria.

Fatfat said that Lebanon’s abstention “shocked the country.”

He also said that the move “placed Lebanon in disagreement with the international community.”

The UN Security Council on Wednesday condemned Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s brutal crackdown against protesters and called for those responsible for violence to be held “accountable.”

Lebanon did not block the adoption, but disassociated itself from the document.

Several March 14 officials and religious leaders criticized Lebanon’s vote at the UN

Commenting on mansour’s visit today to Syria former minister Hassan Mneimneh said: This visit is natural for a government that was formed by Syria and Hezbollah. He stressed that Hezbollah and Syria are making all the cabinet decisions

Mneimneh told VOL on Sunday that this visit comes after Lebanon’s shameful stance at the UN security council .

Seems it will be another Somali-land in a sad future … elections of the people overtaken and controlled by guns; militias everywhere beating and killing when they wish; some people already starving; kidnappings occur; loose borders with other despotic countries; illegal activities like smuggling and drugs funding little despots locally; no good general health-care and hospital-staff attacked (verbally at least) each day; water and electricity in dubious supply; shop-owners attacked for doing legal business either by mafia wanting payolla or religious zealots; …. long list … the only thing it might not become is a desert although pollution could make it as bad.
“… Lebanon’s decision does not necessarily mean there will be a confrontation with the international community.”
Perhaps not … it will be left to swing in the breeze like Somalia because it cannot or will not fix itself. Aid agencies support it now.
Lebanon … another sad name on the map which even brave tourists will shun. They can see what it was once in pictures and history books. Some may shed a tear.

Easy there Mr.5th, Lebanon is still very beautiful its kind of ridiculous to compare Somalia to Lebanon. Even though i find it kind of ironic because Lebanon was known as “The Pearl of the Middle East” and Somalia was once known as the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean”. 5th you are acting as the Shi’ites are the only ones in Lebanon who have arms 😉 at the most if Hezbollah wants to run this country physically there are plenty of people with arms. Habibi, Israel and Syria couldn’t control Lebanon, what makes you think these small little bastards with Iranian dicks and AK47s are going to control this mighty nation? We still have all the political parties left from the war, do you think that the Lebanese Forces dont have enough money to buy arms if they wanted to? If they wanted arms the next day they would buy them. The Sunnis in Tripoli almost every single household has arms, i have a Sunni friend in Tripoli who has couple arms. Dont get me started on the Druze almost everyone of them has arms. Lebanon, it will take years until someone can look on the map and say its a decent nation lol.

Perhaps I had a moment of depression .. sorry Beiruti.
When we read it is an ‘appropriate step’ not to make any comment on ‘governmental’ mass murder I tend to consider what that means for humanity.
Yes I  agree still beautiful. At least when looking over a distance from a mountain.
And damn me, I love it.

There is a spot or two left for contemplation of nature, where one can listen to wind in the trees, or waves on a shore, and sit to think alone – without much fear of being shot or arrested for ‘spying’. (A little trickier for nude swimming or sun-bathing, 😉

But blindfold your eyes to keep that peaceful feeling when you get up, before you see the garbage with paper, cans and plastic plowed in under the olive trees, (not considering chemicals in your olive oil); or hold your nose if a dead cow washes up with the waves and no-one will touch it because that is someone else’s ‘ministry’. No-one dares to ‘complain’ because the proper ‘ministry’ might be run by a different sect, and they will visit you at night because you must be a heretic if pointing out something logical.

For sure the Lebanese women are beautiful. 🙂 At least, those not yet driven down by their poverty or lack of rights and turned into baby-factories.

And yes, I agree there are guns all over – unofficial of course. Only Hezzys seem to have official ones – in their own minds.

I am riding in a car with one of the lovely ladies driving – stopped in Tripoli ‘rush-minute-jog-along’ (shortened by lack of work) – when a teenager walks between the trapped cars loading a very nice sawed-off shotgun. I say; “Do you see that?” She answers; “Yes, but he’s not running … it’s ok.”

Adding to the wry humour of the moment, I say; “Would you run with him, at 90 degrees from him, or the other way?”  Everyone laughs, of course. There is no reasonable answer.

A moment of enjoyable human insanity.

And it IS ok … the day is peaceful. We can go to a different ‘country’ to enjoy a good meal with wine – stopped only once for ‘identity-check’ at an army post with nice guys doing a job looking for bombs and ‘terrorists’…

But … Tomorrow we cannot depend on it being the same.

I guess when I see it is not appropriate to note inhumanity, I tend to think of Somalia. It is the end there, after all.

        Sigh ….

Oh .. sorry … I did it again.

‘adding that Lebanon cannot take a decision that opposes Syria.’  What is this criminal talking about??  Has the ‘dirt-bag regime’ of Syria not done untold harm to Lebanon?  He speaks for the (mostly, but not all) ‘dirt-bag’ parliament that by armed intervention now tries to speak for Lebanon!  Will the Lebanese go on letting such as him continue??  I realize that elections to come will probably be controlled by ‘potty-mouth(the old, tired “Mr. A”‘, HA(the street-turds you know and love so well) and the likes of Iran(and it’s fuzzies), but the people could(if so inclined) go in another direction.
