President Obama today called on Syrian President Bashar Assad to step down, as his brutal crackdown on the country’s uprising continues to escalate.
“The future of Syria must be determined by its people, but President Bashar al-Assad is standing in their way,” Obama said in a statement. “His calls for dialogue and reform have rung hollow while he is imprisoning, torturing and slaughtering his own people …” (more…)
Lebanon’s Parliament Wednesday endorsed a law banning smoking in all enclosed public places, including restaurants, bars, cafes and offices.
The law was presented for vote with an amendment that would fine owners of businesses if they fail to implement the smoking ban and will also fine individuals who violate the ban. (more…)
