Gorbachev warns of ‘lost years’ with Putin

The USSR’s last leader Mikhail Gorbachev has warned that Russia risks six lost years when Vladimir Putin returns to the presidency, echoing rumblings of dissent over his Kremlin comeback.

The announcement at the weekend that Putin, currently prime minister, will stand for president in 2012 and current Kremlin incumbent Dmitry Medvedev take the post of prime minister, sparked no mass protest actions in Russia. (more…)

Mikati to chair UN Security Council session on Palestinian bid

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said on Sunday that “Lebanon’s ties with all countries must be excellent.”

“We have no choice but to be on excellent terms with the countries of the world except for Israel of course ( Lebanon and Israel are considered at a state of war) . Our main priority is national unity, and it is on that basis we approach all positions towards foreign countries (more…)

UN Security Council to consider Palestinian membership bid

The UN Security Council is to begin consultations on an application by Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas for full state membership of the UN.

The request needs the support of nine out the 15 members of the council, but the US has said it will veto the bid. (more…)

Boeing Delivers First 787 Dreamliner After Three Year Delay

Three years after it was scheduled to be released, Boeing finally delivered its first 787 Dreamliner aircraft Sunday.
