Patriarch Rai says “does not follow any party”

During a ceremony in the US city of Saint Louis, Missouri , Lebanon’s Maronite Patriarch Bechara Boutros Al-Rai said on Sunday that he does not follow any party, but on the contrary he is followed by them.

Coop urges Mikati to provide LL 75 billion treasury loan

Coop of Lebanon shareholders called on the cabinet on Friday to provide the cooperative with a LL75-billion treasury loan, according to local reports

The Shareholders issued a statement reminding Prime Minister Najib Mikati that he should implement decree Number 109, which has already approved the loan. (more…)

Killing of Syrian opposition leader sparks anger

Beirut, Lebanon – More than 50,000 mourners marched through the capital of Syria’s Kurdish heartland Saturday in a funeral procession for one of the country’s most prominent opposition figures a day after his assassination. March 14 MP slams cabinet’s stance over Syria’s violations

March 14 MP Mohammad al-Hajjar condemned the cabinet’s “weak” position over the violations of the territorial integrity of Lebanon by the Syrian army and accused it of being incapable of taking any measures to protect the Lebanese people.

In an interview with Kuwaiti newspaper As-Seyassah published on Sunday Hajjar said the Syrian regime “must know its limits and act within them,” in reference to Syrian army’s violation of Lebanese territories. (more…)

Protesters break into Syrian embassy in Berlin

A group of about 30 demonstrators stormed the Syrian embassy in Berlin early on Sunday and confronted the ambassador, according to the police.

The break-in followed earlier demonstrations outside the embassy on Saturday. No-one was hurt or arrested, a police spokesman told the news agency AFP. (more…)

Syria closes a border crossing with Turkey

Syria closed one of its border crossings with Turkey and barred Turkish citizens from entering Syria following bloody clashes in the city of Qamishli, Anatolia news agency reported on Saturday. (more…)

Jumblatt, Hezbollah relationship could explode anytime, report


Informed Sources told Okaz newspaper in a report published on Sunday that relationship between Progressive Socialist Party ( PSP) leader MP Walid Jumblatt and Hezbollah has become very tense and could explode at any moment, especially after one of the PSP ministers criticized the appointment of former minister Adnan as-Sayyed Hussein as the new head of the Lebanese university.
