20 kilometres (12 miles) from the Israeli border
"During the entire course of the incident, 14 UNIFIL soldiers were lightly injured and some UNIFIL vehicles were damaged, among them one ambulance from the investigation team," UNIFIL spokeswoman Yasmina Bouziane told reporters
According to eyewitnesses the protesters that attacked UNIFIL were supporters .
Following the incident last Tuesday Bouziane told reporters:
"UNIFIL considers this incident a serious violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, notably the provision that there should be no presence of unauthorized assets or weapons in the area of operations between the Litani River and the Blue Line," , referring to the border demarcations in south Lebanon.
UNIFIL, set up in 1978 to monitor the border between Israel and Lebanon, was considerably expanded following the 2006 war , which Israel launched after Hezbollah captured two of its soldiers in a deadly cross-border raid.
Since Hezbollah has officially agreed in 2006 to comply with 1701 it should not have any arms depots in south Lebanon and should not have allowed its supporters to attack the UNFIL soldiers. Such incidents give the Israeli's all the excuses they want to violate the Lebanese airspace
