Hariri : If we win next election we won’t vote for Berri as speaker

Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri revealed on his Twitter page that if he and his alliance win the next election they will not vote for Nabih Berri as the speaker of the parliament.

Hariri also revealed that he is in Riyadh , Saudi Arabia and he will decide when to return to Lebanon as soon as the time is ripe. (more…)

Berri describes Aoun as a ‘eunuch’, WikiLeaks

According to a US diplomatic cable leaked by WikiLeaks, Speaker Nabih Berri described Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun as a “eunuch.”

Tensions rise between Lebanon and Israel over maritime borders

Speaker Nabih Berri told a U.N. diplomat that Lebanon is willing to use all the necessary means to “protect” the country from any Israeli attack. Meanwhile, an Israeli government spokesman accused Hizbullah of exploiting the issue of the maritime borders between Lebanon and Israel in order to wage a war against the Jewish state. (more…)

Siniora: Hezbollah’s arms only issue to discuss in dialogue talks

Former PM and current Future bloc leader MP Fouad Siniora on Wednesday responded to Speaker Nabih Berri’s criticism that the bloc is “placing conditions” for engaging in national dialogue.

In a statement issued by his office, Siniora questioned Berri’s comments, asking “If Hezbollah’s arms are a source of dispute in the country, then why wouldn’t we want to call for addressing it in dialogue ?” (more…)

Berri tells Aoun: lets make a deal on appointments

Berri nominates a close relative as Lebanon FM

An Nahar newspaper has reported that Speaker Nabih Berri has nominated Attorney Wassim Mansouri to be the minister of Foreign Affairs in the new cabinet that PM Nagib Mikati is trying to form.

Mansouri who is reportedly a close relative of Speaker Berri is a University professor and is professionally involved with the defense team of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (more…)

MP Hamadeh: Cedar Revolution liberated the Lebanese from jail, but Berri is still in it

Berri postpones parliament session to June 15

As was expected Speaker Nabih Berri failed in his efforts to hold a parliamentary session on Wednesday due to lack of quorum and postponed it to June 15 .

Only 58 MPs attended the session . For the quorum to be met at least 65 MPs should attend ( half the 128 member parliament plus one ). (more…)
