Carlos Slim ranks as world’s richest person for second year

At an age when most people enjoy retirement, Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim grew his personal fortune by some $20 billion in one year through gains in his telecommunications and mining businesses.

Lebanese flee Libya, urge government to help evacuate fellow citizens

Egyptian killers of Lebanese singer escaped prison, report

MTV reported that reports from Egypt revealed that Hisham Talaat and Mohsen al-Sukkary, who were charged in the murder of Lebanese singer Susanne Tamim, have escaped from prison in Egypt.

4 Lebanese kidnapped in Nigeria

Gunmen sporting military uniforms kidnapped four Lebanese road construction workers in an attack that left at least two dead in oil rich southern Nigeria, a security source said on Saturday.

The four employees of Stemco construction firm (two of them senior managers) were seized at Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom, one of Nigeria’s nine oil-producing states. (more…)

Carlos Slim Helu is the world’s richest man

Forbes Magazine late on Wednesday named ( son of Lebanese immigrant ) Mexican telecom mogul Carlos Slim Helu as the world’s richest man in its annual ranking, dethroning Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. Slim’s wealth was estimated at $53.5 billion by Forbes, compared with Gates’ $53 billion. Berkshire Hathaway’s Warren Buffett came in third with $47 billion.
