Tripoli clashes and Syrian crisis not linked, Suleiman

President Michel Suleiman told al-Liwaa newspaper on Tuesday that the clashes in Lebanon’s northern capital Tripoli have been caused by the mounting security tensions and have nothing to do with the Syrian crisis .

Lebanese army deploys in Tripoli areas hit by fighting

The Lebanese army deployed Tuesday in sectors of Tripoli affected by clashes, calming the area after three days of sectarian fighting that killed nine people, an AFP correspondent said.

Renewed clashes reported in Tripoli, Lebanon

Renewed clashes were reported on Tuesday in Tripoli , Lebanon’s northern capital in the area of Talaat al-Rifaia between the Nashar and Hajer families according to New ( Al Jadeed) TV.

According to the report the Nashar family sympathizes with the Hezbollah-led March 8 coalition, while the Hajer family sympathizes with the Islamist organizations. (more…)

Lebanon judge issues arrest warrant against Mawlawi

Military Investigative Judge Nabil Wehbi on Monday issued an arrest warrant against Lebanese national Shadi al-Mawlawi for “belonging to an armed terrorist group, National News Agency reported.

At least two people were wounded on Saturday when unknown assailants opened fire at a protest rally in Tripoli, a northern city of Lebanon, official National News Agency reported.

Unidentified gunmen open fire on Lebanese army in Tripoli

Assailants opened fire on a Lebanese army checkpoint in Tripoli on Saturday night, an unnamed security source said.

“Anonymous [shooters] opened fire from a car on an army checkpoint located between Tripoli’s Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabbaneh,” the source said. (more…)

Libya’s rebels are declaring the ‘Gaddafi era’ over after taking control of most of Tripoli as US President Barack Obama called for ‘an inclusive transition’ in the war-torn country.

Fire near oil refinery in north Lebanon contained, report

A huge fire erupted Sunday across from the Tripoli oil refinery in al-Beddawi area in north Lebanon , National News Agency reported.

The fire reportedly quickly spread due to strong winds, gutting vast areas of agricultural land located near the refinery’s storage tanks, NNA said (more…)
