Lebanese leaders condemn attack against French UNIFIL forces

The attack on Friday against the French peacekeeping forces in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre was condemned by many Lebanese leaders.

France not interested in leading UNIFIL mission

According to a report published in Le Figaro Newspaper on Saturday, France is not interested in leading the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) , for fear that its contingent could be a possible target of attacks if the situation on the Israeli-Lebanese border deteriorated.

UN Security Council extends peacekeeping mission in Lebanon


The U.N. Security Council has extended the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL) for another year, saying the situation there remains a threat to international peace and security.

Sarkozy warns Lebanon: France may reconsider UNIFIL participation

French President Nicolas Sarkozy told the Lebanese president and prime minister that France “may reconsider its participation in UNIFIL” if it is attacked again.
