LAF arrests 13 suspects in arson attacks in south Lebanon

The Lebanese army has reportedly arrested 13 youths suspected of involvement in arson attacks on scores of homes in the southern town of Jwayya.
Voice of Lebanon radio said Sunday that the latest attack was on the home of a citizen from the Qleit family.

Iranian opposition leaders beaten by security forces

Iran’s two main opposition leaders, Mehdi Karroubi and Mir Hossein Mousavi, have been beaten up by security forces at a rally marking the anniversary of the Islamic revolution.
One of Mr Karroubi’s sons, Mohammad Taghi Karroubi, told BBC Persian TV that Iranian special forces, the police and some plain-clothes forces attacked his father and his supporters.
He said: “They used tear gas, batons and other weapons. They were armed and some were carrying cleavers and guns.
He also said : “They sprayed tear gas into my father’s face, burning him, and he was also hit on the head with a stone”. He added : My father’s face is burnt from the tear gas and his eye is injured”. BBC

A clash took place this evening in the Burj el Barajneh neighborhood of Beirut when the youths of the area tried to attack the Lebanese internal security forces . 7 young men were arrested and many motorcycles that were in violation of traffic laws were confiscated

US condemns ‘ unjust suppression of civilans in Iran

The White House on Sunday strongly condemned “violent and unjust suppression” of civilians in Iran, following a fierce government crackdown on opposition protests.
The strongly-worded statement contrasted with careful initial responses by the White House following post-election protests in Iran in June and came as the nuclear showdown between Tehran and world powers reached a critical point.
“We strongly condemn the violent and unjust suppression of civilians in Iran seeking to exercise their universal rights,” White House spokesman Mike Hammer said in a statement.
“Hope and history are on the side of those who peacefully seek their universal rights, and so is the United States. AFP
