A senior militant, believed to be the head of al-Qaeda in Pakistan, was killed in a US drone strike early on Thursday morning, according to security officials.

Jumblatt slams Lebanese officials who linked Arsal to Al-Qaeda

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt on Monday slammed Lebanese officials who accused Lebanon’s town of Arsal of harboring Al-Qaeda members by saying they did it to serve their own interests.

In his weekly editorial in the al-Anbaa magazine Jumblatt wrote: “The foolishness of those individuals did not take into account the sensitivity of the situation in the region when they said that al-Qaeda had entered the town of Arsal.” (more…)

Rifi: ‘No Information on al-Qaeda in Lebanon


Internal Security Forces chief Major General Ashraf Rifi told al-Joumhouria daily in a report published on Saturday that he has “no information” about the presence of al-Qaeda in Lebanon, an issue that has stirred controversy in the past week.
