Syrian opposition seat at summit deepens Assad’s isolation

Saudi Arabian King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz blasted the Syrian regime for frustrating all attempts to end the bloodshed through peaceful means.

The king’s address was read out by Crown Prince Salman at the Arab League Summit in the Qatari capital on Tuesday. “The Assad regime has foiled all political attempts to resolve the crisis,” he said. (more…)

Damascus accuses opposition of stealing its AL seat

Damascus slammed the Syrian opposition for its “theft” of the country’s Arab League seat on Wednesday, calling it a “legal, political and moral crime.”

The comments, published in pro-regime newspapers, came shortly before opposition leader Ahmed Moaz al-Khatib addressed an Arab League summit in Doha, as the seat was handed to the opposition. (more…)

Al Khatib to address at Arab summit despite quitting

Syria’s resigned opposition chief Ahmed Moaz Al Khatib said he would address the Arab summit in Doha “in the name of the Syrian people,” in a statement on Facebook.

Arab League gives Syrian seat to opposition

The opposition will take over Syria’s vacant seat at the Arab League, a high-ranking league official said on Monday, a day ahead of a leaders’ summit in Doha.

Israel’s Peres urges Arabs to stop Syria massacres

Israel’s Shimon Peres called Tuesday for Arab intervention “to stop the massacre” in Syria as he delivered the first speech by an Israeli head of state to the European Parliament in almost three decades.

Lebanon PM is worried about cabinet credibility

Lebanon PM Najib Mikati who is reportedly worried about the credibility of the cabinet urged the cabinet members to refrain from expressing their own personal viewpoints that would draw criticism against the government and accusations of lack of credibility.

Amal MP: Lebanon FM should be awarded over Syria stance

Amal Movement MP Hani Qobeissy condemned on Sunday the calls for firing Lebanon’s foreign minister Adnan Mansour from the cabinet over his controversial remarks on Syria during the Arab League ministerial meeting in Cairo.

Chehayeb: Syrian envoy is the Lebanese FM

Commenting on the stance of of Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour during the Arab League meeting in Cairo last Wednesday , MP Akram Chehayeb a key member of the National Struggle Front said in an interview with Kuwaiti Newspaper Assyasseh:

“We usually do not pay much attention to what Mansour says , since events have shown that the Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdel Karim Ali is acting as the de facto Lebanese Foreign minister”. (more…)
