Lebnaon’s STL investigation chief ends contract in Feb.2010
The Office of Daniel Bellemare, Prosecutor of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon announced that its Chief of Investigation Naguib Kaldas , an Egyptian-Australian will be departing the Special Tribunal at the end of his contract on February 28, 2010 to return to Australia, where he will resume his duties as Deputy Commissioner of the New South Wales Police.
Kaldas who signed one year contract with the intention of to go back to his post in Australia said : : “I am leaving with the same sense of optimism that the Prosecutor has expressed about the progress we’ve made and continue to make in the investigation and I am confident that the team of professionals I am leaving behind will get the job done.”

Special Tribunal for Lebanon Prosecutor Daniel Bellemare has visited the families of the following four victims who lost their lives in terrorist attacks in Lebanon
-Charles Chikhani who was killed in the bombing that targeted MP Antoine Ghanem on September 19, 2009.
- MP Walid Eido who was killed with his son Khaled in a targeted attack on June 13, 2007.
- Abdul Hamid Mohamed al-Ghalayini, who was one of the victims of the bombing on February 14, 2005 that targeted former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
-Maj. Gen. François al-Hajj and his son and daughter, Elie and Rasha al-Hajj. Al-Hajj was killed in a targeted attack on December 12, 2007.
Bellemare said : “The victims and their families are the reason why the Tribunal was established and for my team and I, you are not ‘cases’ or ‘files’.”
“I can assure you that we are making progress and that I am very optimistic. I sincerely wish I could tell you more about the reasons for my optimism but unfortunately I cannot because I do not want to give away any information, or even a hint, that could tip off those we are after,” the prosecutor told the families.
He urged the families of the victims to uphold their faith in justice and their confidence in the independence, integrity and professionalism of the tribunal and the ongoing investigation.
Bellemare met Lebanon’s ISF Chief Rifi
Lebanon’s Internal Security Forces chief General Ashraf Rifi met with Special Tribunal for Lebanon ( STL) Prosecutor Daniel Bellemare who thanked Rifi for ISF’s help to the International Investigation Commission.
Earlier today Bellemare met with Minister Ziad Baroud .The Special Tribunal for Lebanon is charged with trying the killers of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri who was assassinated in 2005

Interior Minister Ziad Baroud met with Special Tribunal for Lebanon ( STL) Prosecutor Daniel Bellemare who was accompanied by Lebanon’s Deputy Prosecutor General Jocelyn Tabet. They discussed cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and the Prosecutor’s office.
