Israeli officer accused of spying for Hezbollah

An Israeli warrant officer and five Israeli citizens are suspected of working with Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, the Israeli military said Wednesday.

The Israeli military said Wednesday that a warrant officer working with Israeli forces and “a number of Israeli civilians” were involved in drug smuggling activities in Israel and Lebanon. The identity of the prime suspect is still under a gag order. (more…)

Lebanese authorities destroy opium fields

Security forces on Wednesday began destroying poppy fields in eastern Lebanon in a campaign aimed at stamping out drug production.

Voice of Lebanon radio said the destruction of the fields in the barren terrains of Hermel began in the morning and will continue until police eradicate remaining plantations in the area. (more…)

Heroin addiction on the rise in Lebanon

There is a rising problem among Lebanon’s youth which many are trying to ignore.

Lebanon, which is known internationally for its long history of drug cultivation, now has a rising number of addicts overwhelming the country’s drug rehabilitation centers.

“There are an estimated 10,000 to 15,000 drug addicts in Lebanon, and around 75 percent of them are heroin addicts,” (more…)

Geagea: There is a campaign against LF from behind the border

Following the weekly meeting of the Lebanese Forces parliamentary bloc in Maarab, L F leader Samir Geagea admitted that “most Ouyoun Orghosh residents are LF supporters, including those detained over this case.”

He was responding to the media reports of March 8.

He said ” the allegations in the media reports are not based on any concrete evidence, ” adding that he is waiting for “the Judiciary to say its final word on the issue.” (more…)

Lebanon arrests a Saudi Prince at Beirut airport

The Lebanese Internal Security Forces have seized 16 grams of cocaine from a Saudi Prince at Rafik Hariri International Airport, As Safir daily reported Thursday.
The newspaper said that 51-year-old Y.B.A.A. was arrested on Tuesday before boarding an Air France flight to Paris. (more…)
