Lebanese army dismantles Israeli spying devices

The Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) on Wednesday dismantled what it said were Israeli spying devices placed on two of the country’s highest mountaintops, according to a Lebanese army spokesman .

Berri: Internal disputes will eventually be resolved

Khalife: Lebanon is united in support of UNIFIL


Lebanese Health Minister Mohammad Jawad Khalifeh said on Sunday that Lebanon is united in support of the presence of UNIFIL troops in South Lebanon.

France: No Scud evidence in Lebanon


French authorities have no evidence to support claims of Scud missiles in the south of Lebanon, the French defense minister said in Beirut

Israeli intelligence: Hezbollah Scuds tip of iceberg

Israeli head of the Military Intelligence’s (MI) research department Brig.-Gen. Yossi Baidatz reportedly said on Tuesday, “Weapons are transferred to Hezbollah on a regular basis and this transfer is organized by the Syrian and Iranian regimes. Therefore, it should not be called smuggling of arms to Lebanon – it is organized and official transfer.”

He claimed that “the transfer of long-range missiles that was recently published is only the tip of the iceberg, ” Israeli newspapers reported (more…)

Visit by US delegation to border area causes confusion

A visit by a US security delegation to the Masnaa border area created a lot of confusion in Lebanon specially since this visit comes after the reports of Scud missiles being shipped from Syria to Hezbollah.

Al-Markaziya news agency quoted an unnamed US official as saying that the US security delegation’s Wednesday visit to the Masnaa border area took place on the invitation and in coordination with the Lebanese government. (more…)

Ban urges Lebanon, Syria to demarcate borders

In his report on the implementation of Security Council resolution 1559 on Monday , U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon has called for serious action to deal with the “dangerous” presence of Palestinian bases outside refugee camps in the Bekaa valley.

The report, written by Terje Roed-Larsen, said the world body was not in a position to independently verify the alleged arms transfers to Hezbollah. However, he said all sides in Lebanon and outside it should stop all efforts aimed at taking possession of or transferring weapons. (more…)

Jumblatt’s car brakes failed on his way back from Syria

jumblatt 040110As Safir has reported that after his meeting with Syrian president Bashar al Assad progressive Socialist party leader MP Walid Jumblatt drove his car on the way back as Hezbollah Secretary-General’s Political Assistant Hussein Khalil occupied the front passenger seat and Wafiq Safa, Head of Hezbollah’s Coordination and Liaison Committee occupied a rear seat.

Everything reporotedly was going fine until Jumblatt’s motorcade passed Aley Roundabout and reached the outskirts of the al-Kahale village to face what was not expected: the brakes of his armored car failed. (more…)
