LF students threatened after removing Nasrallah posters from LAU campus

Lebanese Forces’ students complained that they had received threats after taking down pictures of Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah that were posted on the inside walls of Jbeil campus of the Lebanese American Lebanese (LAU).
LF said Hezbollah’s students on Wednesday posted Nasrallah pictures in the LAU campus’s parking lot, causing tension among undergraduates. (more…)

Army attacks Lebanese Forces’ supporters in Ashrafiyeh

MTV reported that the Lebanese army attacked supporters of the Lebanese forces in Ashrafiyeh. Nadi Ghosn , Media director of the Lebanese forces Nadi Ghosn told MTV that he urged Interior Minsiter Ziad Baroud to come an witness what was happening . The incident took place in front of a polling station near Wakim Restaurant in Ashrafiyeh.

LF launches worshop in preparation for its first general conference

LF: Karami’s problem is with his March 8 allies, they used him

Yesterday former Prime Minister Omar Karami has reportedly stated that Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea is a murderer, and that if he were selected to participate in the national dialogue sessions, he would not do so in Geagea’s presence.

The Lebanese Forces’ media office responded today with a statement :
“If Karami was not so enthusiastic about taking part in the national dialogue that includes Geagea, why then, did he create all this fuss only to withdraw from the March 8 coalition?” stated the LF. (more…)

Geagea: No to lowering voting age unless expats are allowed to vote

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea reiterated what his party MP George Adwan told earlier VOL and that is his party will not support lowering the voting age from 21 to 18 unless the expatriates are given their right to vote abroad.

LF links lowering voting age to voting by expatriates

In an interview with Voice of Lebanon Radio, Lebanese Forces’ MP George Adwan commented on the issue of lowering voting age by saying: “There is a parliamentary session Monday and we will participate and voice our opinion on lowering the voting age to 18 years which is related to enabling the expatriates of voting; and the two subjects are reciprocally connected.”
In response to French FM Bernard Kouchner’s comments about Hezbollah and its arms , he said: We have never said that we will throw these arms in the sea. We want these arms to be handed over to the legitimate authority to strengthen the state and allow the Lebanese government to make war and peace decisions

Commenting about the cabinet Adwan said : “This is not a national unity government, but rather a government of minimum consensus. We believe that stability in Lebanon provides the national interest we are seeking as Lebanese Forces.”

Geagea: No-return to war in Lebanon

During a speech at the annual Christmas dinner held by Lebanese Forces in Bcharri, LF’s leader Samir Geagea said: “I assure you today that I’m striving with all my effort, energy, and concentration so that war doesn’t return to Lebanon. If you ask me about the things I’m longing to, I will answer: ‘No-return’ to war as the most important.”
Geagea stressed that his top priority is working on preventing the return to civil war in Lebanon
“Generations after generations will be proud of what we are achieving today of valor,” Geagea said.
Geagea urged the youth not to get lost in small details by saying: “Today, we are making history”

Lebanese Forces and Progressive Socialist Party still talking

A delegation from the Progressive Socialist Party on Thursday visited Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea and handed him over an invitation to attend a conference about “Supporting Civil Rights of Palestinian Refugees in Lebanon” to be held on January 13, 2010.

Answering a question on whether the visit signals that the relation between LF and PSP is still fine, the delegation’s spokesman said: “The relation is persistent with all of the political factions we were allied with and with all of the new factions which we are trying to build bridges with, in an attempt to find common grounds among the Lebanese.”

Meanwhile Geagea said in an interview with Al Watan Al Arabi that the warrants prevent the normalization of relations with Syria and any progress in relations between the U.S. and Syria will not take place at Lebanon’s expense.

PSP helps March 8 win the elections at LAU Beirut campus

The March 8 opposition won the elections at the Lebanese American University’s Beirut campus as a result of the support by Walid Jumblat’s Progressive Socialist Party.
The “Keep Working” March 8 alliance, representing Amal, Hezbollah, the Free Patriotic Movement, the Lebanese Democratic Party, and Syrian Social Nationalist Party, managed to pick up all the 12 seats, after PSP supporters voted for the opposition camp.
But at the LAU Jbeil campus, the March 14 which includes the Lebanese Forces, al-Mustaqbal movement and Phalange party, managed to win seven seats, while the March 8 alliance , won five.

Geagea: Hariri’s visit to Syria should be carefully planned

Samir Geagea, leader of the Lebanese Forces said after meeting with Lebanese Prime minister Saad Hariri at the center house in downtown Beirut that he is for Hariri’s visit to Syria but cautioned that such a visit should be be carefully planned and with a specific agenda that should include tackling the pending issues between the two countries and not to be just a photo opportunity
