Sayegh: Wrong timing for visiting Brad
Minister of Social Affairs Selim Sayegh told MTV on Tuesday: “The timing of certain Lebanese officials’ visit to Brad is inappropriate, particularly because relations between Lebanon and Syria are not normalized.” He added that the trips imply there are two different Maronite celebrations for Saint Maroun’s Day.
Sayegh is referring to Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun, Marada Movement leader MP Sleiman Franjieh and former President Emile Lahoud who headed to Syria to celebrate the occasion in Brad , near Aleppo.

This year’s Saint Maroun holiday falls on the 1,600th anniversary of the death of the founder of the Maronite church. Maroun flourished as a hermit in Brad, before moving with his followers to Lebanon. He is buried in the village.
