MP Kanaan demands the release of the 3 Lebanese

FPM MP Ibrahim Kanaan told LBCI Tuesday that the arrest of the Lebanese for defaming President Michel Suleiman on Facebook is not legally justified and should not have happened.

“General prosecutor Said Mirza ordered the arrest of Naim George Hanna, 27, Antoine Youssef Ramia, 29, and Shebel Rajeh Qasab, 27, after authorities interrogated them on charges of libel, slander and defamation against the president on Facebook,” the source told AFP on condition of anonymity.

First Judge of Beirut Ghassan Oueidat issued indictments on Tuesday against the three people over the charges.

“The matter does not deserve such reaction. It would be dangerous to assault the freedom of expression,” Kanaan said.

The MP demanded the three youths be released.

I agree with Mr. Kanaan about allowing freedom of expression. I hope the next time someone insults or joke about Nassrallah please make sure his thugs do not go around burning places and threatening people. You can’t have it one or the other..

Asking for their release by ONE MP does not constitute a democracy. The fact that it happened tells tales. I was passing by Brookline today and a bunch of people had Obama’s posters wearing a Hitler style mustache saying impeach Obama. The Brookline police was there to protect them. Go figure!!!

I think our politicians are visiting so often syria to the point that we are behaving like them. Lebanon is free and will remain and this is not acceptable. The president is not god neither the dictator of syria or the supreme idiot of Iran. Nobody should be arrested because of what happened. This judge is an idiot and the justice should overrule his decision. The lebanese should remeber this infamous name who dare to attack the freedom of apeech in lebanon. If this jugde idiot go to Iran or syria, he will surely find a lot to do but not in lebanon.

The President should not tolerate such a behavior. Expression of speech should be one of our fundemental human rights. Long live Lebanon and I will continue to live OUTSIDE lebanon.

libon was never a democracy and has never had freedom of speach

no leader has been elected by the people and freedom of speach was never exercised in libon during syrian “tutelage”
Just because their gone doesnt mean their policies are and all of you will see things become worse in libon with the cowards consulting syria on every issue

    Maria. Democracy right?

That’s what we are striving for in Lebanon.

Vote for puppets and pretend we have free speech.

Don’t be taking America as a role model. India would be better.
