    what a stupid answer.

the answer is really very simple. look at other similar cities and see what they did. you can have bridges that take more people oput of beirut city easier.

get people out of their cars and encourage more bicycle lanes like here in vancovuer and in amsterdam.

design more train lines and bus routes so people can take those.

fire ashraf rifi cos he’s definitely incompetent for this job.

My first comment here, i read this site daily…

Im sick and tired of the damn traffic and bad driving here … im from australia and have been living and working here for 2 years… starting to think twice now … ive been hit 2 times by idiots on my scooter people just jump out of nowhere or park on the main roads randomly like WTF ? the worst roads and traffic control is Lebanon and it needs a solution not a miracle! its just dangerous! i wont even pass on a green traffic light (if its not flashing yellow and actually works!) cause no one even follows them … whats going on ?

lol robbie, hialrious post for sure. when stephanie and i visited lebanon, me after 30 years and her brand new, she noticed that i loved the mayhem. why? cos i was imagining myself in a big video game that’s for real bro.

it was an amazing rush to not drive within the lines, not abide by the speed limits and most of all, who cares about pedestrians. actually, what pedestrians?

the cars stopped for steph and i (mostly for her) when we were crossing a main road and that was a big victory for a hint of a civilised traffic.

you just gotta join the mayhem bro cos i freaked out when everybody was running the red light and stehanie and i were timing when to go cos when a group of cars, you gotta before the opposing traffic finds that hole.

put your 25 cents into the life machine and play race driver when you ride your scooter. i admire your courage but most of them are amazing the way they squeeze thu traffic.

we saw a whole family on a single scooter bro. a father, a mother, a son standing in fron of the dad holding onto the bars and the mom holding onto her baby. like you gotta admire that – a people adapting to whatever’s given to them.

my hats off to MY lebanese people and their amazing adaptation.

what we loved most was we thought a scooter was on fire coming down the road and i wanted to go help it and as it approached, it was an argheeli delivery service with hot coals. what a fantastic idea. absolutely capitalistic and great dexterity.

the guy gets off his bike, puts down his coals, opens the trunk, assembles his argheelis and rushes upstairs to his clients.

the only thing equivalent to this that i’ve experienced was miami where they would deliver food, a six pack, a pack of cigs and rollies for your pot. that was back in college when we used to go on spring break to miami.

Not only the traffic needs miracle, the electricity also. It is because of lack of planning and lack of qualified people and adding corruption to the formula.

We need a miracle to change people behavours. everything out of the ordinary seems cool to the Lebanese, a road with 3 lanes has 6 cars driving on it side by side. those guys will argue with the police and fight if they got a ticket and tell the guy “do you know who are you dealing with ” it seems everyone has an important idiot behind him to safe guird his ass,,,,, guys, people have to change first, then the roads become easier to drive on….why don’t we admit to ourselves that we’re against laws, norms and anything good in our country…. all those cool dudes who defies every law in Lebanon behave as sheep in other countries….maybe we need change of population first……

Tony, I swear i saw almost the same thing in Syria. But this couple was on a motorcycle, husband in the front, baby (infant) in the middle, and woman on the back, not to mention you saw her whole back side when the wind blew. lmao

a miracle? just a tiny bit of long-term thinking and a tiny bit of care for the people and less for the money. make an investment that maybe gives you profit in 15 years, but it will help every other sector (the economy, anyone?). it is called public transport. imagine going from beirut to tripoli in 15 minutes. what would that do to the economy? and the tourism?
the way the environment is treated in lebanon is ridiculous and dangerous (aside from the fact that the traffic is the same, instead of being funny, typical or whatever), and i don’t want to see the statistics for lung cancer and stress-related diseases due to standing in traffic jams all day and breathing that lovely smog. or having a bridge built right through your living room, like in bourj hammoud. a few people in the world seem to be getting that cars are not the future, but the lebanese are really, really far from that notion.

1- limit number of cars of “****ing rich people” per individual,

2- some control and management for large amount of freelance taxis

3- raise the age for acquiring a driving license to 21 years old, cause no need for “kids” to ride a car damn it. let them take a taxi to the college like normal human beings and ride bicycles and motorcycles for hanging out.

4- create a “pay as you pass” highways like in France & other civilized countries

5- create trains for transportation between big cities

6- stop the DAMN “wasta” when it comes to the safety of citizens (especially for stupid driving against line stream, or disrespecting the light traffic control systems) (bass shatrin tetshataro 3ala bastaat el ka3ek wel kedra yalli we2fin 3a janab w ma mday2in 7adan, la2anno ma 3endon daher)

7- stop police corruption (such as taking silly bribes from some shops in order to allow customers to park in front of them and make traffic problems)

8- spread more traffic policemen (and allow them to make the charge regardless of the sob who is disobeying law)(khalli yen2eber ye3mel el wasta ba3ed ma yakol el mokhalafeh howeh w 3am yed7ak)

9- make a study about corporations and institutions working hours start and end, and make new rules by distributing start & end times of work if possible, by categories mabye or by industry, or by special corps , let people collaborate and participate in handling this problem.

10- although i listed stupid ideas, but who knows where it may leads, if viewed by more clever and intuitive people so plz continue reading.

11- make bridges and tunnels lots of them (and make them paid passages if you see fit).. and don’t forget to insure them…

12- build damn parking buildings for God’s sake, most traffic are because of parking cars here and there (let some lazy people walk)

13- make web pols – create competitions for big brains with prizes (or any other motivations, make use of Lebanese brains and wits) do something …

14- do not , i repeat do not hire a foreign team to study the case , and take our money.. we have enough brainiacs who can take you back and forth without you even knowing it. let us solve this problem by ourselves to save money.

15- do not panic of the costs, people will pay for it but for a long time, but that’s the only way that works unless you wanna beggar again and again.

16- let honest people handle the gathered money for such projects if any* , and watch where the money is being spent carefully

.. sorry i’m tired plz people use ur imagination .. maybe someone listen

How about a public transportation system, like every other civilised city. Then maybe we’ll be able to actually breathe right.
Or are the Lebanese too prestigious to sit inside a bus?
