Lebanese Diaspora leaders urge Christians Sunnis, Druse to resist Hezbollah

Share:

In an article published in al-seyassah Lebanese Diaspora leaders called on Christian, Sunni and Druse leaders in Lebanon to form “defensive areas” against Hezbollah’s terror and penetration.

The Diaspora leaders called on President Michel Sleiman, Prime Minister Hariri, the Lebanese Army and Internal Security Forces to stop the infiltration by Hezbollah cells into areas outside the Shia enclaves and defend what is known as “March 14” zones of support. But the emigres’ leaders also addressed the top politicians from the legislative majority who oppose Syrian influence to “work immediately on setting the defenses of the zones contiguous to the areas dominated by the Iranian backed militia.

As Siyasa reported that coordinated statements were issued today december 30th by Sheikh Sami el Khoury, the President of the World Maronite Union based in Miami, Florida, Joe Baini the President of the World Council of the Cedars Revolution based in Sydney, Australia, Elias Bejjani the chairman of the Lebanese Canadian Coordination Council based in Toronto and the Secretary General of the International Committee for UNSCR 1559 Tom Harb, who briefs Western Governments on Lebanon.

The statements called for removing the weapons deployed by Hezbollah and its allies including Christian Michel Aoun, Sunni Abdel Rahim Mrad, Druse Wi’am Wahhab, and the Syrian National-Socialist Party (SSNP) in the districts with Christian, Sunni and Druse majority and enable civil society to defend itself if Hezbollah would wage military offensives and terror acts in the near future.

The Diaspora leaders claimed the Iranian and Syrian backed militias have been smuggling weapons from the Hezbollah areas of control into opposing regions and that Christian, Sunni and Druse communities should stop Hezbollah’s advances into their areas.

  1. To resist, will result in huge sacrifices by those who do. We have witness many Christian and Sunni martyrs already. But this has to happen, the resistance against Hezbollah. As long as they hold a gun to head of the Lebanese people, their cannot be peace in the country. Christians, Sunnis, Druse, and even Shias who seek peace, must stand up to Hezbollah.

As long Hezbollah hold onto their weapons, it is only natural, that the other groups should begin arming themselves, to protect their people. If Iran and Syria provide the funds and weapons to Hezbollah, then it is the Lebanese Diaspora responsibility to do the same, in order to protect Lebanon. Show Hezbollah, for every gun you hold, the Lebanese Dispora will hold a gun. For every missile you have, they will have one. For every tank, they will have tanks.

I hate to say it, but it will be basically a Cold War in Lebanon. Force Hezbollah to lay down their weapons and come to the table of peace. If they resist, stand up to them. Because if you don’t, democracy will be crushed, civil war will begin and many Lebanese from both sides will die, for no good reason.

No political/militia group in Lebanon today needs weapons, except the Lebanese Armed Forces. Let these groups focus on politics and resolve the many problems existing today in Lebanon, such as electricity, clean water, jobs, etc – the true rule of government and the opposition. And let the Lebanese Armed Forces be the protectors of Lebanon.

“Lebanese Diaspora leaders” remind me so much of the former ” Iraqi opposition groups” under the leadership of the corrupt Ahmad Chalabi.
Get a life people.Who do you represent? Show some creditability before you give yourself the right to urge Lebanese what to do or not what to do .
Enjoy your life in sunny Miami.

Who in the hell are the Lebanese diaspora? I hope they are not counting me part of them …. I tell the so called diaspora that the Christians have suffered enough on the hands of the Sunnis and Druse … remember what happened to the Christians in the Shouf mountains and west Beirut !!!!! I strongly believe that the Lebanese Christians will be suffering what the Christians in Egypt and Iraq are suffering if it wasn’t for HA. If it wasn’t for HA Beirut will full with Alqeda operatives blowing up churches and Shites mosques. Even though I do not agree with all of HA policies but I’m still a strong Christian supporter. So there Lebanese Diaspora.

      1. It is so sad to keep on saying of it weren’t for HA Lebanon would be filled with Al Qaeda, don’t get me wrong but if it weren’t for christians Lebanon would be filled with Saudis and if it weren’t for Sunnis Syria would have still been in Lebanon and , and, and….. you see it is a vicious circle, Lebanon is what it is because of the Shiites, Sunnis, Druze and Christians with the good and bad each of the above had braught to Lebanon each in its way.

I am a Sunni and not for a second I would consider ruling out any of the other sects when it comes to Lebanon as a country and I wish all the Lebanese think like that and have Lebanon and their main allay. We are all in the same boat, if Lebanon suffers all suffers with it, if the shitt hits the fan all of us will get dirty-excuse my french.

Now the March 08 is obstructing the goverment who is getting affected the most…all of us not the sunnis alone or the christians, etc…. so let’s get over the mentality of sayning if it weren’t for X then Y would have done this and that….

          JadM,

Let me correct you if I may. If it wasn’t for the Christians and their suffering, there will be no Lebanon. There are good and bad people from every religion and sect. The death of Hariri was the main cause for Syria’s withdrawal from Lebanon and not because of the Sunnis …. Some Sunnis sided with PLO when it was in Lebanon against their fellow Lebanese (mainly the Christians) to forward their political agenda.

I’m from the Shouf area above Jeihe and we suffered my friend, not on the hands of the Syrians nor the Shites but on the very hands of our neighbors (sunnis and Druse) very sad to say. March 14 are bunch of nothings. They are all gangsters and murderers including that coward Junblat who is trying to save his head by kissing ass. I don’t even know why Hariri Jr. is involved with them, he’s the only one who doesn’t have blood on his hands.

      2. Liban1,

I believe everyone has done his shares of mistakes in the past including christians. As I said before Lebanon is only strong with the harmony between the people living in it, henceforth; saying that if it weren’t for christians there will be no Lebanon is totally wrong. Let me remind you with the mistakes christians are now doing by following the like of Aoun and Ja3ja3. The christians has been losing their place in Lebanon to shiites and Sunnis and March 8 and 14 are the biggest proof. Who is leading March 08 – the Shiites and who is Leading March 14 – the Sunnis, the christians are just followers nothing more. Being a Sunni, I should be happy right? well no, I am not, because I believe there is no balance in the country unless everyone is equally able to influence and lead the country effectively. Our problem in Lebanon is that we have different foreign agendas and we have a lack of a common direction towards where the country should be heading to and how it should be done. March 08 believe it should be done by force and March 14 by politics. Both are wrong of course as you cannot win Isreal by force, 2006 war showed you can stop them to a certain extent but you cannot say you win tem though. As for politics it is also a lost battle as the biggest countries in the wrld favour Isreal over Lebanon anytime.

So what is the solution, Christians should assume back their important role in Lebanon starting with increasing the authorities of the President through the constitution, Aoun, Ja3ja3 and Jmeil join hands and lead the christians as they should under the wing of the prime minister (whoever that would be). Hariri and Nasrallah should join hands to protect the christians as a priority and find a formula to protect Lebanon from ay foreign interference let it be Iran, the USA, etc….

Let us stop talking about the past and look ahead of us for a change, if the christians are the oneswho suffered the most in the past at least them get out of their misery and assume leadership again for the sake of themselves and Lebanon

          JadM,

Let me say one more thing and let this go. I’m with you that all Lebanese factions made mistakes and that’s why I bring up the past because history is a good teacher….. The Christians fought the Syrian occupation and the Shites fought the Israeli occupation. Who did the Sunnis fight? The so called March 14 were clapping during the Israeli aggression in 2006 wondering when the Israelis are going to crush HA.
The Christians of March 14 know very well that they’re allied with the losing side plus they don’t represent that many of Christians anyway. For that I believe Lebanon is saved and governing Lebanon will be shared between the Christians and Shites in the near future.

      3. The Sunnis were too busy receiving the people who migrated from their homes in Daheya and the southern villages and were way too busy to clap. It is funny how you picture the Sunnis as useless and that the rest are heroes. The fact remians that the largest number of investments pouring in Lebanon are because of the Sunnis? Let me ask you a question where is the largest sum of foreign investments coming into lebanon from- IRAN? Nope it is from the GCC my dear. Do the Sunnis have weapons to gight with HA against Isreal? The sunnis did their part in the 2006 war………what do the christians do?? What did the Druz do?

So please do not insult the Sunnis by picturing them as uselss at least the sunnis does not have blood on their hands and had never shaken hands with an Isreali and taken orders from an enemy to kill women and children in cold blood.

I am a Sunni and would never allow anyone to stand between me and my Shiite , Christian or a Druz brothers in rebuilding the country, but with a menatlity like yours I don’t see it happening.

The diapora is reacting to a Hezbolla of the 80’s, an dis oblivious to Lebanese nationalism, and how it influenced hezbollah and others today. Immigrants of all nationalities are famous for preserving a past, outdated image of their culture in their mind. In Lebanese media, you notice less sectarian labeling than in western news articles describing Lebanon. This is because Lebanon evolved out of sectarianism, in part. Some of us, the nationalists of Lebanon consider sectarian labels the equivalent of the N word, and the diaspora needs to catch on to that.
