Arab countries declare Monday as first day of Ramadan

Religious authorities in Egypt and Saudi Arabia have declared that Monday will be the start of the holy month of Ramadan – a period devoted to dawn-to-dusk fasting, prayers and spiritual introspection.

Official statements issued Saturday also said Lebanon and Qatar agreed on the start of the holy month. Ramadan begins around 11 days earlier each year. Its start is calculated based on the sighting of the new moon, which marks the beginning of the Muslim lunar month that varies between 29 or 30 days.

During the month, Muslims are expected to abstain during daylight hours from food, drink, smoking and sex to focus on spirituality. This year, the long and hot summer days are expected to compound the already tough fast. AP

The beginning of ‘Spirtitual Introspection’ in Egypt ….

‘Around 100 armed men drove around the city of El-Arish, shouting Islamic slogans, and firing into the air, before attacking a police station.
Terrified residents fled into their homes. One of those killed was a 13-year-old boy, according to reports in the local media.’

I guess it’s a Good thing Lebanon and Qatar agreed on the phases of the moon … I thought they might blame USA for planting a flag on it and screwing it up … but all seems ‘right’ in the universe, at least.

jeez, talk about looking for a negative comment regardless of the article and its contents.

We all know that the cowards that committed the atrocious act/s in Egypt have in way adhered to the tenets of their faith.

Their actions are in no way condoned and may they all burn in the pits of hell.

The same applies to any policy maker (eastern or western) that has destroyed nations, started conflicts, created division, poverty and oppression.

No need to apologize, I just want us to be more positive and not let these imbeciles make us lose hope for a better future.
