WikiLeaks: Aoun does not want to see Hezbollah keep its arms

Free Patriotic Movement MP Ibrahim Kanaan told former US Ambassador to Lebanon Jeffrey Feltman on December 6, 2006 that FPM leader MP Michel Aoun is “the last person in Lebanon who wants to see Hezbollah’s militia keep its arms,” according to a US diplomatic cable leaked by WikiLeaks.

According to the cable, Kanaan said he “understood US skepticism over the FPM’s relationship with Hezbollah, but declared that Aoun is the last person in Lebanon who wants to see Hezbollah’s militia keep its arms.”

The cable added that Kanaan “asked [the US] to remember where Aoun came from – as former commander of the LAF – and that he [Aoun] more than anyone wants to see the LAF regain its constitutional primacy as the nation’s sole protector and guarantor of sovereignty.”

Aoun formed an alliance with the Shiite militant group Hezbollah in February 2006 and became March 14’s fierce political rival after boycotting former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora’s government that year.

        I will sure pray for you brother, every single Lebanese and every single piece of soil are in my prayers. I pray for some to continue their hard work, I pray for others so God can give them wisdom and show them the light shining up on the hills of Rabieh.

          Though we decry his tune.
          Of Libnan1, it can be said,
          His heart just loves the Loon.

          And in those horrid verses writ
          There may yet be some boon;
          His own truth honest as the day,
          We shudder to hear him croon.

          No need to guess just where he stands
          No other thoughts have room.
          Although we often wish someone
          Would come out with the broom.

          We know, alas, without a doubt,

    They call every supporter a lunatic
    All they have to do is ask an Egyptian Coptic
    At the end they will all smell like a septic
    Overflowing with stuff that looks ecliptic

      seriously libnan1, these childish poems are getting old… but just for fun, do you mind explaining the reference about the coptics? cause I think that you ran out of rhyming words and threw that in there, but it makes no sense, the copts support aoun too now?…. hint: google “words that rhyme with” next time.

        No Balash I did not run out of rhyming words, I put it there for a reason. So think about it and let me know if you get it, I can see you are fairly smart guy. The word Coptic does make sense, the Copts don’t support Aoun but it’s an implied support…. BTW the poems are awesome expression of ones gratitude, much better than the negative F this and F that ….:)

          @7akibalash:disqus  You said it, the Copts are getting killed by the Sunni Salafites which makes makes Aoun’s alliance with the Shia much smarter than your alliance. That is the point I wanted to imply in my poem.

          libnan1, if hizbilkhara was sunni I would still be against them, a state within a state is something that is intolerable, and the fact that your demigogue aoun is buddy buddy with the thugs holding all of us hostage to their terroristic whims is dispicable. aoun is a piece of trash who is after one thing and one thing only, filling his pockets.
          so, you definitely have shown your true colors here, you are a bigot, with all do respect. it isnt a sunni shia thing for me, it is a free lebanon for all lebanese where no one imposes their will on others, thing.

          btw demigogue is a play on the word demigod, cause you see aoun as a demigod and he’s always demigoguing.
