Minister of Social Affairs Wael Abu Faour denounced the attack on the Archbishop headquarters of the Roman Orthodox church in Rashaya . He called on the security forces to find and punish the perpetrators, stressing that it is time to reveal who does these acts of vandalism, and put an end to these attacks.

Abu Faour also contacted the Roman Orthodox Bishop Elias Kfoury and condemned the incident, and stressed that such incidents should not be allowed to affect the co-existence in a region that has always been an example of unity, understanding and convergence.

The Progressive Socialist Party of which Abu Faour is a member also issued a statement denouncing the attack.

The report does indicate whether the incident is related to the electoral law that was proposed by the Orthodox gathering.

  1. “should not be allowed to affect the co-existence in a region that has always been an example of unity, understanding and convergence”…………… what planet is he living on???

Nonetheless, a shameful act, which unfortunately is one of many committed in a region that is “an example of unity, understanding and convergence”!!!!

    Peace

Note:  The proper translation of the Room Orthodox   كنيسة الروم الاورثوزكس  is the Greek Orthodox Church or the Antiochine Orthodox Church (latter name used in the U.S.A). There is nothing called the Roman Orthodox Church! It is somewhat offensive to call an Orthodox by a name created by the English to call the Church of Rome, the Roman Catholic Church.

Is it like calling a Sunni a Shi’ite?

As with all sects of any particular main religion, they like to be clearly defined. 🙂 Greek, Russian, Ukrainian … all Catholic, which means Christian – and only different by their ‘orthodoxy’ vs Roman … and yet, different in that too. Same as Muslims, Hindus, etc. All is basically due to the politics of how ‘conservative’ or ‘liberal’ each should be in relation to the changes of human experience on the planet.
        People are weird.

        1. The distinction is cultural not political.  Armenians, for example, had their identity preserved in the Armenian Orthodox Patriarchate of Antilias (?) especially when Armenia was part of the U.S.S.R.  The Greek Orthodox Church in Lebanon until the beginning of the 20th century had Greek bishops and patriarchs and preserved the Byzantine culture.  The same can be written about others.  Genetic tests on Greek Orthodox or Greek Catholics/Melkite communities show that many come from Greek blood.  All this has nothing to do with conservatism or liberalism but with culture and heritage.  I don’t understand why everything Middle Eastern or Lebanese has to be politicized?!

Salim … I’m using small ‘l’ and ‘c’ … not pertaining to political parties, but character.
