Bassil : expect more power blackouts in Lebanon

Lebanon Energy Minister Gebran Bassil said Wednesday evening that power blackouts “could reach 15 hours per day.”

“If we do not execute any of the measures, amend the flaws… and [lift the freeze on] funds which [the energy] sector needs then we might [witness a worse situation],” the minister told MTV.

He added that the situation of the electricity sector was “bad.”

“If our demands regarding the power-generating ships are met then we can save part of the summer season. But we are still waiting for a decision from the council of ministers,” Bassil added.

According to analysts Lebanon is witnessing the worst blackouts ever . In Mount Lebanon areas which are classified as tourist resorts there are days where power is on for 3 to 4 hours a day and where blackouts can last as long as 12 hours in one stretch. This has reportedly outraged the tourists who are threatening to leave if the situation does not improve.

Main reason the ‘for profit’ hospitals charge so much Shirdel … running the generators on Diesel for operations  … or gas in some cases, like businesses. Lights off in hospital rooms. Leave all windows open of course just to get air, even when the shooting is going on. Very healthy for the patients … 32C yesterday … quite nice.
Don’t ask about food in people’s homes … ok?
