Geagea: Hezbollah is launching war on Lebanon

Share:

geagea -nycLebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea hinted on Sunday that the rocket attacks on the Baabda presidential area last Thursday came from a Hezbollah stronghold and accused the party of declaring war on the state of Lebanon, its people and institutions .

“The rocket attacks came the same day of the president’s speech on Army Day. They were launched from areas that come under the military control of a certain party.” Geagea said un reference to Hezbollah.

He said that the rockets were probably placed on trucks in the areas of Dohat Aramoun and Bshamoun, since the military experts haven’t found the launchpads.

“Who has the ability to move freely” in those areas? Geagea wondered, saying he would leave it to the Lebanese people to decide on the answer, in a hint to Hezbollah’s involvement in the attacks.

Geagea called for “strong judicial measures” to arrest the perpetrators.

On Thursday, two rockets were fired at the Baabda area .
One landed within the security perimeter of the Presidential Palace and the other within the security perimeter of the Army headquarters .
The attack came hours after President Suleiman gave a speech during the ceremony marking the 68 the Army Day.

Lebanon’s Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel condemned on Saturday the Thursday rocket attacks , declaring that they clearly targeted the Lebanese army and the presidency and stressing that President Michel Suleiman’s speech on the Army day was not targeting the resistance.

In his interview with Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) on Sunday Geagea called for support to President Suleiman and defended his speech at the army day as purely constitutional.

“Suleiman’s speech on Army Day was purely constitutional.” Geagea said stressing that for the first time in 25 years he feels Lebanon has a president .

“For the first time in 25 years we feel that we have a president,” Geagea said about Suleiman, who on his Army Day speech stressed that it was time for the state to become the sole-decision maker on the use of force.

Suleiman, who has been calling for national dialogue to discuss Lebanon’s defense strategy , based on the Baabda declaration criticized in his speech Hezbollah’s role in defending the Syrian regime.

“It has become urgent to study a defense strategy especially that the resistance’s arms have gone beyond Lebanon’s borders”. Hezbollah is usually referred to as the resistance.

“The army’s mission would be impossible if a party or more from Lebanese people get involved in wars outside Lebanon ”, Suleiman stressed in another reference to the thousands of Hezbollah fighters who have been fighting alongside the forces loyal to Syrian president Bashar against the rebels seeking to end his family’s four-decade rule.

Geagea stressed during the interview that it was a waste of time to hold dialogue with Hezbollah, which he described as “totalitarian.”

“It is a totalitarian party with its own ideology and strategy ” which is “launching war on the state of Lebanon, its people and institutions,” he said. “As a Lebanese citizen, I don’t accept for the party to take any strategic decisions on my behalf.”

“Dialogue with Hezbollah means that we agree to its proposals,” he added. “Let those who want to try it out take such a move.”

Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group slammed on Friday reports linking President Suleiman’s speech to the rocket attack.

“Linking the president’s statement to the attack is a despicable and blatant attempt.” Hezbollah said in a statement.

But Hezbollah friends in the media attacked President Suleiman. An Al Akhbar editorial told Suleiman” Get out”. “Who convinced him that he is Lebanon’s top statesman ? Who convinced him that he is Lebanon’s savior ? Who convinced him that the country will abide by what he says ? “Said Ibrahim al Amine the editor of the article .”

To answer Said Ibrahim al Amine, it was the Lebanese majority, including Hezbollah’s PMs amongst other allied parties who elected the president of Lebanon therefore he is Lebanon’s top statesman. The days of your hegemony over Lebanon is at an end.

Geagea sure does know a lot about this attack. Case closed, no need for an investigation. I wouldn’t trust this guy as far as I could throw him, and thats not very far.

Actually, Real … we CAN (and do) note he has said some fairly accurate things – but people don’t want to listen to him because of a past. In Lebanon, if the ‘past’ was of any use at all except for the fevered religious minds, none of them would be ‘in office’ now, But since that never seems to change, Geagea still makes more sense most times.

A past that may not even be true. Geagea was pronounced guilty of war crimes by a SYRIAN court. And even if he did commit the crimes, so did every party in Lebanon during the war. Of course the press charges on Geagea. He was against(and still is) foreign influence in Lebanon. Anything to keep his mouth shut. And can I add, putting someone in a dark ‘cell’ for years should be a war crime itself.

sorry but who is this geagea?i remember a criminal asking to visit president Assad more than hundred times and phoning his office more than a thousand times pretending to be the leader of the christians and boss of labanese forces; his first name was samir; we used to call him za77if samir. Is it the same criminal you are talking about, za77if samir, a rampant!

And who are you?? Im sorry if Geagea was leading the Lebanese forces (a militia) against your mighty Syrian army who was trying to control the Chouf mountains in Central Lebanon. Please tell me, how embarrassing was it to lose to a small Christian Militia? And what about el Koura and qnat? Was it as embarrassing as losing your country to a bunch of loosely banded untrained sunnis? Please respond, Mr. President…

He didnt murder him. It was a fight and half way through Geagea got shot and was critically injured so he left for medical treatment. It was led by Elie Hobeika. Keep in mind this was before Lebanese Armed forces was formed and Geagea was with the Phalangists. He had no real leadership at the time. It is not right to blame him for this when there were other politicians involved in it and other crimes during the civil war.

If I remember correctly this was Geagea’s first operation with the phalangist party. Go check your history.

when he attacked michel aoun in baadba, he emptied all the northern front from his maffia; this is because when he applied to become a za77if, his application was on hold; president assad said to nader soukkar at that time he will not attack from the north; so he removed all his maffia from the northern front to send them to baabda; then ghazi kenaan called nader soukkar to tell him to stop attacking baadba as only the syrian army will be allowed to enter; to make it short, regardless whether you like michel aoun or not, the za77if samir geagea made an agreement with the syrian army to help him invade baabda; the syrians were much more intelligent and when the right time came they stopped him from invading baabda; thus the za77if samir geagea should be tried as a traitor to Lebanon not just a criminal of war which he is too

Second HA is doing most of the killings with the help of Iran and Syria since 10 years ago. HA is disrupting and attacking whomever goes against it. Seriously and with total arrogance they attack and almost admit it. Of course they deny to show how innocent they are? look at the present and those who are not only killing Lebanese but also venturing abroad to Syria and terrorizing Europe and the middle east. they declare war and go around intimidating Lebanese. Geagea is not doing anything to harm Lebanon and every time he ask for fair and reasonable cooperation by HA you jackasses jump on his back and talk about the past.. what Didn’t Aoun, Franjieh, Jumblatt, Berri, Karami Clans, is there a leader now that really had a clean past. talk about the present and deal with it. Yes. The top Hezbollah officials dont want a war in Lebanon. But their fighters arent the most disciplined, as seen in the helicopter attack in 2011. What he’s trying to say is Hezbollahs weapons pose a threat and actions like these will easily launch a war in Lebanon in times like this. Imagine what Lebanon will be like today if the rockets exploded on the palace.

There was increased pressure by Syria on Geagea to accept the Syrian presence or face charges. Prior to his arrest, he was contacted by several sympathetic politicians and warned about the forthcoming proceedings and offered safe passage out of Lebanon. Geagea refused to leave. The Syrians exploited the vulnerabilities of the amnesty law promulgated by then president Elias Hrawi for all the crimes and atrocities committed before 1990. This law also stated that any crime committed after that date will void the effect of the amnesty. On 27 February 1994, a bomb exploded in the Church of Sayyidet Al Najet (Our Lady of Deliverance) in the locality of Zouk killing 9 worshipers and injuring many. It is unknown who perpetrated the bombing and it was ultimately attributed to some shadowy groups, but Samir Geagea was accused of the crime solely for the purpose of voiding the effect of the amnesty law of which he benefited, in the same way as all political and militia leaders from other communities and regions were benefiting despite their many unspeakable crimes throughout the Lebanese civil war.On 23 March 1994, the Lebanese government ordered the dissolution of the LF and Geagea’s deputy Fouad Malek was taken into custody. Geagea himself was arrested on 21 April 1994, on charges of ordering the church bombing, of attempting to undermine government authority by “maintaining a militia in the guise of a political party”, of instigating acts of violence, and of committing assassinations during the Lebanese Civil War. He was accused of the assassinations of former prime minister Rashid Karami, National Liberal Party leader Dany Chamoun and his family, and former LF member Elias Al Zayek. He was also accused of attempting to kill Minister Michel Murr. He was acquitted in the church case but given four life sentences in the other cases. Amnesty International criticized Samir Geagea’s trial and conviction, citing that it was politically motivated and unjust

Actually, Real … we CAN (and do) note he has said some fairly accurate things – but people don’t want to listen to him because of a past. In Lebanon, if the ‘past’ was of any use at all except for the fevered religious minds, none of them would be ‘in office’ now, But since that never seems to change, Geagea still make more sense most times.

        1. The real lebanese Avatar
          The real lebanese

A past that may not even be true. Geagea was pronounced guilty of war crimes by a SYRIAN court. And even if he did commit the crimes, so did every party in Lebanon during the war. Of course the press charges on Geagea. He was against(and still is) foreign influence in Lebanon. Anything to keep his mouth shut. And can I add, putting someone in a dark ‘cell’ for years should be a war crime itself.

when he attacked michel aoun in baadba, he emptied all the northern front from his maffia; this is because when he applied to become a za77if, his application was on hold; president assad said to nader soukkar at that time he will not attack from the north; so he removed all his maffia from the northern front to send them to baabda; then ghazi kenaan called nader soukkar to tell him to stop attacking baadba as only the syrian army will be allowed to enter; to make it short, regardless whether you like michel aoun or not, the za77if samir geagea made an agreement with the syrian army to help him invade baabda; the syrians were much more intelligent and when the right time came they stopped him from invading baabda; thus the za77if samir geagea should be tried as a traitor to Lebanon not just a criminal of war which he is too

Syphilis is curable more like Syriana pestis… The black death caused by Yersinia pestis caused more than 75 million deaths… The harm that Arabs and Middle Eastern people suffered at the hands of the Syrians is way more than what the Israelis have done since their existence.

That is a good point. If Israel did what Assad was doing it would be gameover.

          78. Don’t forget Assad pestis. Different outbreaks have killed 250,000 more or less.

First were you there when he called Assad? you keep talking about a past that many leaders were involved in the war. I remember now not the past. so shove it where the sun don’t shine.

You don’t have to worship HA to realize that he is just stirring the pot with his baseless allegations. Strike while the iron is hot mentality. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe HA thought it would be a good idea to fire rockets at the presidential palace from a HA “stronghold”.

Well no one else could have. HA has full control in their territories. Im not saying it was ordered from Nasrallah, but it could have been some drunk HA fighters taking advantage of their arms. Who knows. But I don’t think Nasrallah or anyone high up in HA did it because they seem to be trying to prevent the fighting from starting in Lebanon. Although their actions in other countries aren’t helping.

i am not a HA supporter at all but one should give them credit for as you honestly and courageously said, HA is avoiding war in Lebanon, but this ma3touh samire geagea said the opposite that HA is waging a war against Lebanon; so decide buddy
